An early start today as the Lion decided to wake up at 6.30am!! I do not know how I managed to wake up at that time and teach English classes at 7am!..it was certainly a struggle this morning!
Leo was quite restless this morning after he woke up so I took him for an early morning stroll around the floor in his pram! The nurses did look at me as if I was little bit crazy walking around at that time of the morning! lol…I think they thought I was trying to make a sneaky escape with him out of the hospital.
On our floor there is a school there that is managed by a cancer association, as we are in the oncology ward we are able to use it. I had a meeting with someone from there who was absolutely lovely, I told him our whole story and he was amazed. He said how they have different workshops and Leo can attend any of them and he said we can take Leo into the school at any time we just ask for a key. They have so many toys, books, pictures etc…. So immediately I went and got Leo and brought him to the school.
Leos face lit up when I pushed him inside in his new wheels! We played with some toys and books and he had a lot of fun. He tested out the doctors toys…..who knows he could be a doctor when he is older! Jorge took him later in the afternoon to the workshop which I think was making dolls! lol…..obviously he cannot participate but it is nice for him to see other kids and be in that environment and it gets us out of the room!
Leo just had to have a little plaster on his head today as he had managed to scratch a scab and it was bleeding! People are probably wondering also why Leo is always wearing a glove.lol. Well…. he also has a bandage under the glove and tape on top of it so it doesn’t come off. The reason is that he is so quick, too quick for us. If his hand is exposed he tries to pull the feeding tube out of his nose, this tube goes all the way down to his stomach and it is quite traumatic for him when the doctors put it back down into the stomach. He has actually managed to remove it twice already, so the glove and bandage makes it more challenging and difficult for him. He does try and chew,bite and pull the glove off with his teeth! I can actually see him maybe losing a few teeth soon if he keeps on tugging on the glove with his teeth so hard! I will give him that….he is very determined!
It is so sad that school is for cancer sufferers to continue with their school work, play and have fun. There were a few kids in there of all different ages studying while having the chemotherapy go through their veins. It is crazy but the kids in that school room probably look 200% happier than the kids outside on the street. They look so happy and content, I guess maybe they just do not realise they are facing the biggest battle of their lives. I can see how the school can make a big big difference to the lives of these kids, and give them something to look forward to everyday. The people who work in the school are also some of the nicest people I have ever met, it felt like I was walking into another home as they make you feel so welcome and comfortable. I would love to help the school or a place similar in the future, just to see the look on the faces of those kids is priceless and you really realize what is important in life.
Leo had a good day, the normal doctor didn’t come today….again….but tomorrow the nice doctor is back so I will ask her my long ass list of questions. The neurosurgeon came looked at Leo and said ok then left!
I was panicking a bit as the nurse told me she thinks we might be able to leave next week! So desperately trying to organize my house now! I just realized how much stuff we have accumulated in the room, we have really made it like home! We are going to need a removal truck to move out!
Had to have a giggle today at all of the little ‘Leo the Lion’ gifts that Leo has been given! This was certainly the ‘gift of the day’ ….although haven’t seen it yet in person I love it already! Who would have known so many things of ‘Leo the Lion’ existed!
We all got cuddles today! I had to weigh myself and then pick up Leo to check his weight……oh my goodness I have put on 2kg since being in the hospital and Leo has also!! He now weighs 14.8kg…..I was struggling to carry him for a long time! The hospital food must just not be good for the waistline!

Es una vergüenza tu Block. Siento mucho lo de tu hijo, pero por desgracia no es el único en el mundo que sufre de ese mal y tu has hecho un circo de su enfermedad. Además criticando a cada momentó a los médicos , enfermeras y su trabajo. Vete a tu país a ver si ahí te hubiesen atendido mejor. España es uno e los mejores países en Europa en la seguridad social y encima gratuita. No se como le va a sentar todo esto cuando lo lea el director del hospital.

Ok entiendo tu postura y tu opinión. Pero haré unas serie de comentarios al respecto.
Lo primero a lo que te refieres es a que estoy haciendo un circo de esto. No voy a hacer demagogia barata, pero si alguien es capaz de pensar que una madre esta sacando fuerzas de donde no las hay para escribir todo lo que mi hijo ha estado pasando durante este tiempo, para hacer de una manera o otra que la gente conozca la historia y done para hacer la recuperación de mi hijo lo más rápida posible, y a su vez poder compartir con padres que puedan estar pasando por lo mismo. Obviamente claro que se que hay niños peores que mi hijo , a los cuales veo cada día en el área de oncologia en la que me encuentro. Así que se que no es el único, pero todas las situaciones económicas no son las mismas y si tu piensas que hago un circo para que mi hijo vuelva a ser el que era lo más rápido posible, ok piénsalo.
El segundo punto es a cerca de tu forma de expresar que me vaya a mi país , en un tono no demasiado cordial, por no decir que denota cierta aversión , por decirlo de alguna manera, hacia la gente de otro país. Bien, pues yo llevo viviendo en este país más de siete años y trabajando en el también ,con lo cual tengo el mismo derecho que tu a usar la seguridad social, ya que pago mis impuestos en este país, y como todo el mundo puedo quejarme de lo que no encuentre bien. No sólo crítico a médicos y enfermeras como dices, si no que también alabó el trabajo de ellos, pero como en todos los sectores hay personas más amables que otras. Soy consciente del trabajo que hacen y estaré eternamente agradecida por haberle salvado la vida a mi hijo.
A parte de todas estas aclaraciones, tras un mes y medio de estancia en el hospital y de miles de personas leyendo mi blog , solo ha habido esta opinión negativa, la cual respeto pero no comparto. Sólo he sido una persona sincera contando mi experiencia desde mi punto de vista.

Lo que es una vergüenza es tu comentario. Aquí hay hechos reales y lo que te pasa a ti es que no te gusta escucharlo.´ Vete a tu país´, como se te ocurre decir eso a una madre que casi pierde a su hijo, que en los peores momentos ha seguido escribiendo todos los detalles de todo lo que estaba pasando para poder vivir, como si fuera una terapia. Tu eres una persona ignorante o simplemente sin corazón y encima racista.

Qué vergüenza de ser humano eres MELISSA!!! Que pobre de corazon eres de verdad, espero que en to vida nunca te pasara nada como ha pasado a la familia de Leo!!! en sus tiempos mas bajo han tenido que buscar cual quier manera de sacar los esfuerzos para seguir para adelante y lo veo nada menos que un milagro que Leo a sobrevivido de esta tragedia. que una madre y padre tenía que pasar esto y encima con gente como tu criticándolas. me encuentro triste de ver gente como tu sin vergüenza con los comentarios solo dicho por interés!! Por decir que lo han hecho de circo sobre el enfermedad de sus hijo, pues a mi me veo que tu eres el único payaso por aqui!!
Menos mal que leo tiene el apoyo de su familia y su familia tiene también el apoyo de las otras familias que están pasando Y vice versa.
Además no importa de donde vienes, yo también soy extrajera y algunos veces tenía que usar el seguridad social y como la familia de Leo pago mis impuestos y con lo mismo derecho que tu para quejar de lo que a mi me parece mal, y también reconocer lo bueno que han hecho también. Ni te cuento de los tiempos que tus paisanos han dicho lo malo del seguridad social.
Que alegría de ver la sonrisa de Leo tan poco tiempo después de pasar todo esto!!
